Tonight, WBBM-TV (CBS 2 Chicago) reunites Bill Kurtis and Walter Jacobson, the dynamic duo anchor team from the 1970’s and ’80’s. For the first time since they both respectability left Channel 2, they will be anchoring a full newscast together, tonight at 10 p.m. on the CBS owned station.
I was a young kid when the duo split up, so I have no memories of them together. I vaguely remember Kurtis towards the end of his Channel 2 days before moving onto bigger and better things. As for Jacobson, I have fond memories of watching Jacobson for many years on the WFLD-TV “Fox News Chicago” 9p.m. newscast.
In recent years, Kurtis and Jacobson have done a few joint appearances together, specifically on Chicago radio, such as for Roe Conn’s show on WLS-AM, and recently (either earlier this week or late last week) with John Williams on WGN-AM.
For all the talk that the Kurtis and Jacobson team still merit today, I am excited about this. While I’ll just so happen to be on the radio tonight while they are on, there is one thing that can happen today that was not possible the last time they were on together… I could set my DVR to record the broadcast, simply hope that someone else records it and puts it on YouTube, or hope Channel 2 decides to post it on their website.
Because I do not have a DVR player, and because I don’t know for sure that someone will put it on YouTube or on Channel 2’s website, I suppose I will have to go old school and simply set my VCR for 10 p.m. tonight.
